SweetChristmas submitted a new resource:

[plain]More Realistic Smelting[/plain] - [plain]Lowers amounts of Tailings by adding a byproduct Slag to Smelting.[/plain]

This mod is aimed towards providing a more "realistic" process for smelting (while reducing the amount of Tailings that you accumulate).
The Ore Washer will crush and wash the silicates (Tailings) out of your ore. You are then left with a washed ore (copper, iron, gold) that you can smelt at a Bloomery or Blast Furnace. There is a new by-product from smelting called Slag. Slag is the impurities that are collected while smelting...

I think the GoldBar is easy to craft
I think It need to change to require more ores and washed gold ore for craft.

Okay one Question...it should reduce the amount of tailings you wrote...but..
When i wahs 4 Ore to get 1 Washed Ore...i get 1 Tailing...when i smelt 4 Ore to get the Ingot directly i geht 1 Tailing to. So no reduction.. is that right?
Is the reduction only for non skilled smelter?

Thanks for pointing that out! I have reduced the smelting cost for ingots to remedy this. The fix is in 0.12.

Thats good to hear One other Question...i know it is not really to do with smelting but...you have made a change to the Charcoal Recipe...is it possible that it can made so that i can burn also the old unused Hewn Log for that? So i dont know...logs...or hewn logs. I have Stockpiles full of old Hewn Logs and dont know what i should do with it now

One little thing that i have seen yesterday...the washing machine icon on the Map is very Big and overlap so the half map...hehe

For some reason the world icon for the ore washer is incredibly huge, as in, it takes up the whole minimap screen. As of now, I just turn it off in the map settings, but I wanted to let you know.

Mhh i havent seen any difference in the ratio from the 0.12 Version...i get still 1 Ingot and 1 Tailing from 4 Ore, washed and then smelted....the same as when i make it directly in Vanilla? Have i made something wrong so that i dont see the changes?

Darianna, I changed the Smelting recipe to halve the washed ore required to make it. This reduces the amount of tailings per ingot. I've not found a better way to do it other than that.

I will remove the icon in the next update and figure out what needs to be done to get a better size.

Mhh sorry when im be annoying...but when you reduce the cost of the washed Ore...then it should be 2 Ore per 1 Washed Ore...then is a reduction...not for 1 Washed Ore =1 Ingot...thats the same as in version 11.. maybe i cant see it because im stupid than im sorry...but i wash 4 ores to get 1 tailing and 1 washed ore,....then smelt the washed ore to geht 1 ingot...
its the same as in the first version...and the same as in vanilla. Is the change maybe not go into the live version?

No problem! I'll try to explain more effectively.

With Smelting Level 0:

-----Bloomery-----
Vanilla Iron Ingot:
20 iron ore is made into 1 ingot and 4 tailings

Washing:
20 iron ore is made into 1 washed iron ore and 2 tailings.
1 washed iron ore is made into 1 iron ingot and 4 slag.

-----Blast Furnace-----
Vanilla Iron Ingot:
10 iron ore is made into 1 ingot and 2 tailings

Washing:
20 iron ore is made into 1 washed iron ore and 2 tailings.
.25 washed iron ore is made into 1 ingot and 1 slag.
You are able to get 4 ingots for every tailing, which is half of what the vanilla is.

I hope this answered your question!

Depending on what feedback I get, I might remove the tailing advantage to blast furnace. The reason being that you don't have any tailings after washing it, therefore it would have no effect.

Well interessting Mod so far but as Darianna said there is no reason to use the Mod. With Smelting Lv 7 i get 1 washed ore and 1 tailing same as vanilla (4 ore = 1 Tailing and 1 bar) for the blast furnace its a bad deal 1 washed (4 ore and 1 tailing) = give 1 bar but vanilla blast furnace needs only 2 ore and gives the same rate tailings (1) so the mod is very useless in my opinion .. maybe its a good deal for ppl who havnt skilled smelting or need the slag

Thanks for contributing. I see where your math is. However you are looking at inputs not outputs.

At level 7, 4 ore goes into 1 washed ore and 1 tailing.

1 washed ore is then turned into 6, almost 7 iron ingots.

4 iron ore is turned into 2 ingots and 1 tailing.

6 ingots and 1 tailing vs 2 ingots and 1 tailing.

You get 3 times as many ingots for each tailing.

It is way more efficient than normal smelting. Perhaps a bit more efficient than it should be.

You have to make larger orders than 1,2,3,4,5,6 to see the benefit of this. Eco does not give you .125 of a tailing or ingot.
